Stock — capability comparison

Knowing you are out of stock is the bare minimum. Knowing why, for how long and where is what lets you act.

Standard tools warn you when there is a stockout. Data Seekers tells you how many days that SKU has been out, whether the problem comes from the listing or from inventory, on which channels it recurs and whether your own channel is failing too — all in a single dashboard.

How we measure

Three metrics no standard tool breaks down

Knowing a product is listed is not enough. What matters is how often it is actually available to the shopper looking for it.

From the stock alert to real availability

A stockout and a listing gap have the same effect for the shopper — the product is not there — but they call for completely different actions. Separating the causes is what makes the analysis useful.

Metric 1

Coverage

How often does the product appear on the channel? Measures whether the SKU is listed and visible. If it should appear on 120 days and only appears on 96, its coverage is 80%.

Metric 2

Listed availability

When it appears, is it in stock? Of the days the product appears on the channel, how many is it available to buy? Isolates the replenishment problem from the listing problem.

Metric 3 — the one that matters

Real availability

What share of occasions can the shopper actually buy it? Combines coverage and listed availability. It is the total purchase opportunity from the shopper’s point of view.

What brands are living today

Four situations standard tools do not solve

The out of stock alert is only the beginning. What sets apart the brands that act fast is having the diagnosis behind it.

The situation

Your tool warns you that a product is out of stock. But you do not know whether it has been out for 1 day or 3 weeks, whether it is a one-off or a recurring problem, or whether it is affecting several retailers at once or just one.

How we solve it

Exclusive

We measure how many consecutive days a SKU has been out of stock and its historical evolution. We tell one-off noise apart from persistent stockouts — because the action each requires is completely different.

The situation

There is an availability gap at a retailer. But you do not know whether it is because the product is not listed on that channel or because it is listed but out of stock. The cause is completely different and so is the fix, yet your tool does not make that distinction.

How we solve it

Exclusive

We separate coverage (the product appears on the channel) from listed availability (when it appears, it is in stock). If there is a 25% distribution gap and only 5% stockout, the conversation and the action are completely different from the other way round.

The situation

Your own channel (brand.com) works well. But you do not know whether retailers are matching that level of availability or whether there is a commercial execution gap with your partners that nobody is measuring or working on.

How we solve it

Exclusive

We compare the real availability of your own channel against each retailer. If brand.com works and retailers do not, it is a commercial execution problem. If brand.com fails too, it is a supply chain problem. Those are different conversations.

The situation

You know unauthorised sellers are affecting your distribution. But you have no hard data to quantify the problem or to take to your authorised distributors. “There is a problem” is not enough to make decisions, negotiate or act legally.

How we solve it

Exclusive

We classify every seller as authorised or unauthorised according to your brand agreements, applied automatically. The result: the share of Buy Box held by sellers without an agreement — the specific figure you need to negotiate or act legally.
